A woman who spent a good portion of her twenties hating sports has come to the conclusion that doing sports isn’t actually that bad, when you’re not picked last for the school team or being yelled at by angry netball girls.

Pip Phillips, 31, tells The Advocate that she’d long avoided any form of sport due to the trauma of being forced to play team sports as an uncoordinated teenager, which she reckons is responsible for 80% of her self esteem issues.

Having spent all of her primary and secondary education faking periods and having days off to avoid being humiliated during PE, Pip says she was surprised to discover that she actually does like sports – individual sports, that is.

“Yeah turns out I didn’t hate sports at all. I just hated being excluded and made to feel like a piece of shit for not being able to catch a ball”, admits Pip, who still netball to this day, “school sports is genuinely hell if you’re unco. Like there’s a reason why the kids who’re good at sports are popular.”

“Bouldering, running, cycling. This shit’s great!”
