Gale Force Winds Sends One Of The Giant Steel Balls Flying Into The Wheel Of Brisbane

One of Brisbane’s most iconic and beloved public art sculptures was partially destroyed last night, as gale force winds from Cyclone Alfred wreaked havoc on the CBD.

The ‘Steam sculpture’, mostly known as ‘Brisbane’s big balls’ is now down to just one ball, as it’s believed the strong winds caused the smaller ball to become dislodged. Street footage showed that the ball could be seen flying down Goodwill bridge at 3am, before another strong gust of wind picked up the ball, and sent it flying straight into the Wheel of Brisbane.

As of writing, the ball is still stuck in the wheel, though a Brisbane council member has confirmed that efforts to retrieve the ball will be conducted tomorrow morning.

However, it is uncertain if the smaller ball will ever be reunited with the bigger ball, or if it will remain undescended.

More to come.
