A local bloke has successfully gotten his indie movie loving girlfriend to watch an action movie this week by casually dropping that her favourite actress will be starring in it, it’s reported.
Having tried unsuccessfully to get Laura to join him for multiple superhero viewings over the years, Ben Knapton, 28, reveals that it was only by mentioning Florence Pugh that he was able to get her to agree.
“I knew she wouldn’t say yes if I led with ‘superhero movie’,'” Ben tells our reporter, explaining that Laura had made her stance on non A24 movies ‘very clear’ in the past, “but I know she loves Florence Pugh.”
“She’s always going on about how Florence is one of the greatest actresses of this generation, and ‘Florence is for the girls.’”
“Oh she’s such a ‘mouth actress’, ‘mother is mothering.’”
“…whatever all that means.”
Ben says Laura also owed it to him after making him watch some of Pugh’s earlier indie movies, which left him feeling disturbed and traumatised.
“She’s…ah, been in some interesting movies, I’ll say that”, Ben says, with a shudder, “but a movie about a rag-tag team of anti-heroes forced into a dangerous mission is much more up my alley.”
“Oh and I don’t mind her Vogue cooking videos either, she seems like a laugh.”
Ben adds that Laura has since agreed to watch more superhero movies, but only the ‘high-brow stuff.’
“Honestly, if Marvel wants to keep Florence in every movie from now on, it would save a lot of relationships,” he said. “I’m just thinking long-term here.”
More to come.
