In a surprising yet somehow predictable turn of events, an Irish pub located in the heart of Chinatown actually serves up pretty mean Pad See Ew.
Raging Murphy’s, an Irish pub in Chinatown that has long attracted Pokie machine addicts and tourists that don’t know which part of the city they should drink in, wouldn’t strike most as a place to get good Thai food from — But Raging Murphy’s has defied the odds.
The pub, which has a kitchen staff entirely made up of Nepalese men, has been surprising guests for years with quality Thai Food for years.
“Yeah you wouldn’t think that a Thai dish made by Nepalese men in an Irish pub kitchen that’s located in the middle of Chinatown would slap this hard, but it really does” explained Kyle Shore (30) a regular at the pub.
The phenomena is nothing new, for some inexplicable reason, soulless pubs in the centre of the CBD absolutely love throwing everyone off and having a Thai only food menu.
“Some say it’s because there was once a Thai chef that worked here in the early 2000’s, but none of us know if thats a myth of not” said Mr.Kansakar, that current head chef at the restaurant.
Some theorise that serving sodium heavy Thai food is a great way to get patrons to buy more beer to cure their thirst.
“Yeah it might be a bit rogue to be serving a totally unrelated cuisine at an Irish pub, but the people love it, so why change the menu” Mr.Kansakar explained.
While some are saying the cuisine crossover may throw some off, Raging Murphy’s insists that the combination is a hit with the locals.
