One of Betoota’s most exciting Rugby League talents has been hooked this afternoon after a disastrous first half of football.
Sporting a hot fade and freshly waxed legs, it’s understood Betoota Dolphins halfback Trent Trindall-Smyth has been told to pull his head in, after a display which may put him in reserve grade next week.
After a 40 minute effort which featured three knock-ons and nine missed tackles, it’s understood Dolphins 1st Grade Coach Reggie Carton hooked Trent to the sidelines, after a failed chip n’ chase attempt saw the ball once again being turned over.
Speaking to Dolphin’s waterboy, Reuben Bailey, it’s believed today’s performance is being blamed on the appearance of Hailey Simmons, Trent’s new girlfriend, who has turned up to watch her new beau play for the first time.
“Trent’s usually a reliable halfback but today he’s running around like a headless chook!” said Reuben.
“He’s been skipping and goose steppin’, going for big hits and tackling thin air, he even tried to throw a four man cut-out pass on the second tackle, he’s having a shocker!”
Taking a squirt of water on the sideline, it’s believed Trent has begun to feign a hamstring injury, in a strategic decision that’s smarter than any of the goal line defence he’s offered up in today’s game.
Wincing as he clutches at his knee, it’s believed Trent copped an almighty spray from the Club Secretary and 1st Grade coach.
“What the bloody hell are you doing out there trying drop goals from 45 metres out?!” screamed coach Carton.
“I know your new Missus is here to watch ya, but if you want to impress her take her out for a nice dinner, don’t try and do it on Dolphins time!”
“Now strap up ya knees and get ready, I’m chucking ya back out there as dummy half and one more missed tackle and you’re playing 4th div for a month!”
In final scores, the Windorah West Windmills defeated Betoota Dolphins, 44 – 4.
