How Bout That Bloody Dearden, Says Dad

The dads and grandpas of Queensland are calling their family members today – with lots to discuss.

Specifically, last night’s glorious State Of Origin victory over the cockroaches.

The series decider was played in front of a packed Sydney stadium, with the Maroons fans vastly outnumbered by those weird fucking blue afro wigs they all wear.

But, as Queensland’s wise old men will attest – the Maroon side played a perfect match of football from kick-off to full time.

Defence rushes, catching and kicking were nothing short of the best that the game has ever seen.

After months of torment at the hands of the NRL media, Queensland coach Billy Slater has been completely vindicated, says dad.

His decision to drop the Origin veteran and skipper, Daly Cherry-Evans, and move fellow Mackay boy Tommy Dearden to starting halfback was the subject of intense scrutiny.

The captaincy went to Cameron Munster, who played out of his skin for 80 minutes – as only an elite sportsman could do with the added emotion of a family tragedy earlier in the week.

With their ragtag outfit of veterans and rookies, Queensland went on to secure an against-all-odds 24-12 win in the decider.

As the dads of Queensland have pointed out – it seems everything just fell into place, as it often does when the Maroons have their backs against the wall.

The new halfback, Tommy Dearden made an impact early in the match, playing the type of electric rugby league football that you just don’t see nowadays.

Not one audience member, Blue or Maroon, disagreed with the decision to award Dearden the Wally Lewis Medal as player of the State of Origin series.

The 24-year-old North Queensland five-eighth put on such a clinical performance that the term ‘Like Dearden in game 3’ has now entered Queensland vernacular – to describe someone at the top of their game.

And the dads were certainly impressed.

“How bout that bloody Dearden” says every Queensland dad and grandpa around the country today.

“The blonde mug was absolutely everywhere. You couldn’t bring him down with a meat axe”

“Billy made the right call with that one, I tell you what”
