The people of the North are this week reminiscing on the rich cultural influences that were injected into their sweaty night time economy over the weekend.

With the North Queensland Cowboys wrapping up their NRL season with a 12 place finish last week, the proud footy fans of Townsville turned their attention to this new thing called rugby union at CountryBank stadium on Saturday.

And the rugby brought with it thousands of ‘Latin Americans’ which are, apparently, a bit different to the Americans you see in the movies.

Namely, they speak Spanish, and they really know how to party.

And as local Townsville pipe relining professional, Rock Castle (27) learnt – they are also very good looking – and really know how to pump up an Aussie bloke’s tyres.

“You know Argentina is second-largest country in South America after Brazil” said Rock this morning, as his workmates take note of the obvious bounce in his stride.

“Really interesting culture you know”

Rock’s newfound fascination with Argentina mirrors a scenario taking place on countless of worksites and army barracks across Townsville this week, after the Northern Capital’s dating pool experienced a sudden influx of exciting Latinas over the weekend.

At 32 degrees with 90% humidity, the Wallabies fought back from a 21-7 scoreline to beat Argentina in Townsville, with ten minutes of high-impact crash balls that eventually sent the replacement prop Angus Bell over the line for a try in the 86th minute.

The Wallabies had turned down a penalty goal that would have sealed a draw – opting to fight it out in the blazing North Queensland sun.

And with the stadium packed with Argentina’s most lively backpackers and uni students, it seems that a last minute defeat wasn’t going to stop the Los Pumas fans from lighting up the Strand in Townsville on Saturday night.

Rock says it was like nothing he’d ever seen before, and as a single bloke, was quick to pick up a bit of Spanish from the visiting partygoers who were enjoying the most Australian experience they’d ever had.

It has not been 100% confirmed whether Rock fell in love on Saturday, but he was caught googling ‘The Australian Passport Office’ over smoko.
