Parents Of Street Busker Living In Byron Not Exactly Bragging About Him At Dinner Parties

When it comes to their 28-year-old son, William, Jill and Tony Sutcliffe haven’t got much to report on. Other than the fact he is still living in Byron Bay – after three years of extremely casual employment.

While having dinner with some close family friends in a heritage timber Queenslander house in the middle of Adelaide East St (Ascot, QLD) over the weekend, Tony was quick to change the subject from William’s current occupational status.

Opting to talk about their ‘bright’ daughter Margot, or even their lawyer nephew Pete, the Sutcliffe’s brushed over what William had been getting up to, by simply stating that he is ‘still down there in Byron’.

“Oh he’s got a bit going on. Still settling in I think,” says Jill.

“Yeah he’s still down there in Byron,” says Tony.

William, who is now playing keyboard in the sixth carnation of the Byron-based Aztec Folk-Rock named ‘Squidmarx’ – can’t seem to understand why his parents don’t see the appeal in Byron Bay.

“They don’t get it hey”

“They were so not keen on helping me out when I lost my job at Stone & Wood brewery last year,”

“They were all like ‘just move back to Brisbane’ – it’s like they don’t even realise they are pissing all their money at the wall paying for my sister’s college fees at UQ,”

‘It’s like, just help me out for a bit. I’m your son too,”

William has not been employed for nearly 12 months now, but has dreams of running a kite surfing school in Lennox Heads.
