The Federal leader of the Australian Greens, Queensland Senator Leader Larissa Waters has announced her sudden resignation this week, citing health issues that require her to lock in and get a bit more rest.
This may very well spell the end of the 'Greenslander' era that followed the 2022 election, which saw the party reach unprecedented representation in not just the senate but also in the lower house - after ditching the indecipherable leftie buzz words and instead focusing on issues that affect normal people who didn't go to sandstone universities.
Lead by South Brisbane's Max Chandler-Mather, the Greens snatched three seats in suburban Queensland (one from Labor and two from the Liberals) - with simple slogans like 'Free Mental & Dental' and 'Protect Nature'.
For a full term, the Greens fought policy battles on environmentalism, housing and cost-of-living.
However, after the Australia media cooked up a narrative that Albanese was going to be forced to form a minority government with the Greens after the 2025 election, the Greens lost all their soft voters to Labor.
This was because the nation's lefties would rather guarantee an election victory to the slightly less evil alternative to Peter Dutton, rather than risk Peter Dutton. This saw even their leader Adam Bandt lose his seat in Melbourne after 15 years.
Since then, Senator Waters has attempted to keep her party on track, and focused on domestic issues - while juggling ideological divisions within her party - as the Gen-Z members spend a lot of time looking at Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's instagram page and wondering why they can't be more like the cool Americans.
And now, with Senator Waters taking a leave of absence as she focuses on recovering from a chronic kidney condition before returning to her upper house duties, the party is must elect another leader.
And when taking name recognition, electability, actual willingness, and general communication skills into account - it looks as though they might be sliding back into the 1950s by electing Senator Shoebridge.
Not only is his mere existence as a middle aged straight white male an affront to the party's voter base on the university lawns, but he's also a bushwalker from Wahroonga in Sydney's North Shore. This means his privilege knows no bounds.
The Australian Greens are now just as male, pale and stale as the Liberals and Labor under Taylor and Albanese. The only real option for their voters is to look towards the only party with a female leader.
