A local woman new to the workforce has admitted the transition from campus to professional life hasn't been easy for a number of reasons.
One of the being her new colleagues at Flight Centre French Quarter are obsessed with quoting Austin Powers movies, which she says has been getting on her nerves. Not due to the the humour but the sheer quantity of it.
Phoebe Davis told The Advocate that "it must be a millennial thing" to quote these rather bizarre movies that wouldn't get made in this day and age.
"I went back and watched them and yeah they were all right but, like, I don't need to repeatedly hear my older male colleagues say 'Get in ma belly' to a Bahn Mi they've just bought themselves for lunch, but it's not just that, the rest of them like burst out laughing and think it's the funniest thing ever," she said.
"Then when they notice that I obviously don't get the niche reference from 1999, they do a six-seven thing and go back to referring to the company Suzuki Swift as the the 'Shagwar' and then go back to laughing,"
"We had this couple come in, they would've been 70 odd, and they wanted to book a trip to London to see their son and the agent goes, 'London? Swinging London? Yeah baby yeah!' in this faux British accent and it really made me feel uncomfortable, Christ knows what these people thought. Anyway, it might just be this shop especially but I really can't take it anymore."
The Advocate reached out to Flight Centre for comment but have yet to receive a reply.
More to come.
