A woman learning an instrument for the first time has deluded herself into thinking she may have a natural affinity for it, despite never showing any signs of having a single musical bone in her body.
Having reached that natural stage of her early thirties were the boozy nights were winding down and she had enough disposable income to try different hobbies, Anna Plunkett, 33, has decided this months hyper fixation will be learning the piano.
And like every other hobby and sport she’s tried this past year, Anna has a small twinge of hope that she’ll miraculously be great at it immediately.
This is likely a result of having been naturally gifted at things as a kid, which has filled her with a sense of delusion she’s been unable to shake.
However, having lost that magical sparkle a long time ago, Anna has been unwilling to accept that being good at things actually takes time.
A skill she’s never quite learned how to develop.
“Yeah I don’t know, I just always feel this feeling that I’m like, a secret savant at something and I have no idea”, says Anna, “and if I just keep trying different hobbies, I’ll eventually figure out what it is.”
“Or you know how in a spy TV show, Chuck discovers he’s actually a sleeper agent and can do martial arts and shit?”
“That’s going to be me.”
More to come.
