Fabled Hero Of English Football Delivers Stirring Pep Talk As Three Lions Take Lead Into Half-Time

An ageing Elijah Wood has arrived in Mexico today, as the English football coaching staff dig deep to inspire the Three Lions.

At half-time of their sudden death match against Mexico, at home, and 'at altitude' - England remains ahead by one goal.

With all of the English footballing greats either employed as sports commentators, or partying in the corporate boxes, coach Thomas Tuchel has had to look elsewhere for a motivational speaker.

And it seems he's found that just north of the border in the Los Angeles suburb of Venice Beach.

The man who put English football on the map.

Arriving in Mexico just moments ago on the Greyhound from Union Square, a 45-year-old Elijah Wood was immediately ushered into the Azteca Stadium to deliver a pep talk for the ages.

The English footballers are reportedly ready to run through brick walls after a short but highly emotive sermon from the man they call 'The Yank'.

"You know the best part of football" Wood told the English side, no longer using the American word 'soccer'.

"It isn't knowing that your friends have your back. It's knowing that you have your friends' back."

The English footballers huddle together, as Elijah Wood continues to remind them of what this game is all about.

"There comes a time when the best reputation you can have is with your family."

"You don't run, not when you're with us... You stand your ground and fight!"

The crowd cheers and hugs each other, before breaking into song.

"I'm forever blowing bubbles, pretty bubbles in the air"
