There was perhaps no one in better spirits than Betoota Plains resident Steve Stewart after Queensland secured a 20-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of last night's State of Origin series opener. 

The Father of 2 set himself up in the TV room with a couple of XXXX and Channel 9’s coverage on full volume. 

After flicking a QUEENSLANDAHHHHHHHH text message to all his mates, Steve settled in for some good footy. 

20 minutes in, he was on top of the world. 

“Fuck me. This is it. They mightn't get anything past us this whole game. Come on boys.”

57 minutes in, however, Queensland’s star player Kalyn Ponga was sent off for a shoulder charge against NSW’s Tolu Koula. 

From there, the game turned around, and NSW ended up securing the win 22-20 with some last minute efforts from Nathan Cleary and James Tedsco.  

“Fucks sake,” said Steve. 

“Fucking hell. Fuck me. You have got to be kidding.”

“That Ashley Klein is a cock.”

“Nut. That was fucking rigged. That Tedesco try was a full set up.”

“It’s this bloody Sportsbet mate. Must have made the call to the refs. Too much money in the game these days.”

The experience was made all the more excruciating as Cleary took his sweet time with the conversion. 

“Come onnnnn what’re you doingggg just kick it ya fuckwit.” 

At that point, Steve was contemplating just switching the telly off and heading to bed. 

“It’s because we’ve won the last couple series, they’ve rigged it to give it to New South Wales this year so that people will keep on watching,”

“Just like they did in 2014. It was getting too boring for the poor buggers in New South Wales so they rigged it for a bit of entertainment. 8 year dynasty should've been a bloody 12 year one, really."

"Anyway. Just watch it. We’ll win Game II and then Ashley will pull some bullshit out of his arse for Game III.”

“This games just gone to absolute shit.”
