A true titan of Australian cricket has blasted the Test selectors ahead of the series with South Africa, telling huddled reporters in Durban that this team for the first Test makes him "want to vomit" and "everyone involved can go and get fucked".

Former first-drop-second-slip-part-time-left-arm-express-unorthodox-all-rounder Paul Chungus, who played five Tests for the nation between 1981 and 2009, made the comments to Fox Sports News overnight in a spray that has left some in the playing camp stunned.

"This is the worst team ever, goddamn [sic], I'm gonna spew just reading the Test list! Some of these players wouldn't have even got a run in Uckumuckcluck First Grade back in 1978 when we came stone, motherless last to the boys from Warrawakkanacka... and they had a lady wicketkeeper!" Chungus said.

"I think it's time for Cricket Australia to take a long, hard look at who's making the decisions here. Because to include a few of these blokes, well, tell you what, they wouldn't have lasted a second in the team I played in. Allan Border would've had 'em on the next plane back to Trobookatookoo quicker than they could bloody say it! [explosive laughter] I hope I'm wrong!"

The Advocate, in the interests of balance, spoke to one of Chungus' former teammates for his opinion.

Former keeper and mentor to Ian Healy, Steve Rixon, said he doesn't recall Paul at all and would warn this masthead against contacting him again.

More to come.
