One one more match left to play between Australia and the British & Irish Lions, the host country has decided to raise the stakes with an unconventional proposal.
Australia remains desperate to avoid losing a series 3-0 to the Lions for the first time since 1904, but what if they didn’t have to lose at all?
The British & Irish Lions series has already technically been decided, after an infuriating second Test in Melbourne saw the visitors securing a second win over the Wallabies with a very controversial refereeing decision dampening the final moments of the match.
The Wallabies led the Lions for the entire match, only be beaten 29-26 via a last-minute gasp that came after a controversial decision not to award them penalty for an alleged infringement by Lions forward Jac Morgan, who illegally struck the Australian replacement Carlo Tizzano in the back of the neck while the poms made a dash for the tryline in the 80th minute.
Saturday’s Test in Sydney will be the last chance the Australians will have to get one over the Lions, with the next series not scheduled until 2037.
But what if they had the chance to win a series before then?
What if it was agreed was made that the next match wins?
The Lions only won the series because of a bullshit refereeing call. Why not make things interesting?
Would the Lions accept the new terms? Or are they still pinching themselves at how lucky they were to defeat the mighty Wallabies?
As it stands, the British and Irish side have not even responded to the Wallabies request. They now risk leaving Australia as cowards.
