Local woman, Sophie McKay, has cut her catch up at Overall Park short this afternoon after she mistakenly answered the whistle of a nearby dog owner, it has been confirmed.

Sophie, who was mid conversation with a friend, suddenly broke into a run looking around the park for the source of the whistle – who she presumed to be her dad – but was left confused when the whistler turned out to be the owner of a black German Shepherd.

Speaking with our reporter at the scene, Sophie explains how it’s not actually that uncommon for a country girl to mistakenly assume a whistle is directed at them.

“Before we all had phones the quickest way for my dad, Rod, to get us to come help was to whistle”

“He assigned us all different whistles”

“I had a whistle, mum had one, then the dogs had their own too”

“Anyway I better get back to my friend, don’t tell anyone I answered to a dog whistle, please.”

It’s not yet known if the owner of the black German Shepherd knew that his whistle summoned an adult woman, perhaps that is for the best.

More to come.
