Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is this week dealing with the bombshell revelation their giant after party event won't be happening this year.
This comes after it was revealed that the event has run at a loss the last couple of years, with Mardi Gras chief executive Jesse Matheson confirming the expensive after party which has run at a loss since 2020, unfortunately needs to go.
The move comes as a part of turning Mardi Gras' books around, with the after party putting a giant hole in the budget - despite it being ticketed.
The sad announcement for revellers planning on their usual full send weekend, comes despite a big few years of some of Australia and the world's largest corporation seemingly really getting around the community.
Unfortunately, despite the likes of banks, tech companies and food giants happily commandeering the pride flag for a few weeks every year in part of a blatant branding exercise to try and increase their profits - they are unable to really dip into the marketing budget to support the giant cultural event.
"Yeah it's a real shame isn't it," said a spokesperson for a giant corporation speaking under the condition of anonymity.
"The whole performative rainbow capitalism things is kinda done now to unfortunately."
"So, we just don't really think it's justifiable."
"And between us, it was never really about the community was it..."
More to come.
