Santos down under

As the best cyclists on the planet descend upon our great southern state, some
lovely words of wisdom and care have been offered up by one of the nation’s
most beloved giant corporations.

Santos, the headline sponsor of the Tour Down Under, have this week kindly
urged those partaking in Australia’s premiere cycling event to look after them-
selves.

After decades of helping to create the extreme heat conditions that have been
battering the country, Santos has thoughtfully implored the athletes, teams, volunteers and fans to all take care in extreme heat conditions.

The comments come as the latest example of Santos widespread sportswashing,
with one of the nation’s biggest polluters popping up at major sporting events all
around the country.

The headline sponsorship of the Tour Down Under comes at a particularly ironic
time, with South Australia having been belted by a recent heatwave and a long
running and devastating algal bloom on the coast.

A spokesperson for the giant polluter said they just wanted to do their bit for sport
and community, by getting behind sporting events that are increasingly at risk of
extreme weather conditions.

“Hey, don’t say we don’t do our bit,” laughed the spokesperson for the tax-dodg-
ing giant polluter that relentlessly tries to improve its social licence through the
work of athletes and sporting events.

“We just want this incredible endurance event to achieve is potential.”

“And part of that is leveling up the temperature and difficulty level to separate the
wheat from the chaff if you know what I mean,” they laughed before ending the
conversation.

More to come.
