What was once a dignified and sweaty proving ground for corporate rivalries has now been replaced by a meme-sport that went viral in America.

Squash, a sport that once provided a socially acceptable excuse to scream in a glass box with your a corporate rival, has seen a steep decline in participation, particularly among younger staff, who now favour a more casual and cooperative alternative.

Pickleball, with its oversized paddles and cheerful pace, has quickly taken over the post-work sporting calendar. It’s low-impact, easy to pick up, and most disturbingly for many corporate Gen Xers, often played with women.

“It’s hard to assert dominance with a paddle that looks like it belongs in a beach toy set,” said David Cranch (46), a long-time squash devotee and branch manager of a prominent bank.

HR departments have embraced the shift, citing improved morale and fewer workplace injuries.

But for older staff, the loss of squash represents a terrible departure from tradition.

"The squash court is what turns boys to men, It's how we humilate interns and get away from our wives" David explained

David says the death of squash is just another sign of broader cultural decline
