In a sad day for consumers of Rugby League gossip, NRLCon icon Phil 'Buzz' Rothfield has announced he's hanging up the rumours and speculation.

After more than 50 years in Sport, the Daily Telegraph and Fox identity has confirmed that he's calling it a day.

From entering the trade without being able to write and spell properly (according to his own version of events) Buzz rose to the very top of the Australian media landscape.

However, with his rumours, rants, and thought bubbles becoming particularly slower and more drawn out on the NRL360 and the like, Buzz says he's stepping back to spend more time with the important people in his life.

His exotic dancers.

Famous for being captured enjoying the company of a woman in lingerie at a sportsman style lunch, the image highlighted Buzz's shared love with NRL players for the off field arena.

So, retiring as 'a legend of sports journalism' the entire sporting community is now wishing him well.

Likewise, we here at The Advocate would like to congratulate Buzz on an incredible career and wish him all the best at some of the fine establishments around Sydney.

More to come.
