A dead on the inside Brisbane man is seriously considering a major sporting code pivot after a disappointing few days in league and AFL.
After the Maroons losing an unlosable game on Wednesday, the Broncos losing to one of the worst NRL teams of all time, and even the Brisbane Lions losing, Brisbane man Louis Thorne (36) is considering a pivot to supporting his favourite Australian Baseball team: The Brisbane Bandits.
"I always knew they were a thing because I see their mascot on the side of the CityCats" he said.
"I've never really gotten around them before but could be a good way of getting out of this rut"
Still reeling from a sporting week that felt specifically designed to ruin his mood, Louis says he is now exploring alternative options.
The lifelong Broncos supporter says he spent Monday morning researching the Bandits and was pleasantly surprised to discover the Bandits are actually the semi-goated, and had a mid-2000s title streak that immediately followed the Origin eight-in-a-row.
"Wish I was following these guys in the bad years after Mal and Wayne left" he said.
"Apparently they've won 4 out of the 15 Australian Baseball League championships. That's already a great start."
Friends say the move is less about baseball and more about mental wellbeing.
"I'm not sure this is about baseball at all" explained close mate Josh McMahon.
"He just needs a team that's going to get some wins on the board"
"Even if it means he has to like, learn the rules of a game he has never watched outside of the occasional American movie"
However, not one to listen to the naysayers who accuse him on bandwagonning, Louis has reportedly already purchased a Brisbane Bandits cap and has been googling where the hell Viticon stadium is.
