The nation’s most loved and respected communications company has today had another PR win.
Optus have floored consumers this afternoon by revealing that all customers will be receiving complimentary emergency flares moving forward.
The emergency distress flares will be sent out to anyone on an Optus phone plan, to ensure that they are able to get the attention of emergency services when required.
The bold new move comes after the Optus network shat itself again on Saturday night, leaving vulnerable Australians with no direct way of contacting life saving services.
That followed a similar outage last week, where unfortunately not everyone was okay.
The telco was also fined $100 million last week for misleading and predatory sales behaviour, in a growing crisis that is engulfing the brand.
They have of course been condemned for this latest outage, with actual serious repercussions yet to be seen.
Optus has claimed that the outage were an operational error, as opposed to a staffing or budget cut error that lead to an operational error – but have no promised to ensure any future outages are accounted for.
“Look, we are exploring the idea of just having a functional telephone network,” said a spokesperson for Optus.
“But for now, we will ensure that people can get the help they need by making sure everyone has access to an emergency service beacon.”
“Simples.”
