The captain of the Australian cricket team has dropped a sensational announcement this afternoon, revealing that he will be standing down after sexting allegations were revealed in the media.

Tim Paine made the decision after details around an exchange with a former female employee at Cricket Tasmania came to light.

Paine said the text exchange had been previously investigated by Cricket Australia (CA) and he had been “exonerated,’ but stepping down as captain was the right thing to do for everyone involved.

The messages have yet to be printed publically, but it’s been revealed that there was a bit of lewd language and a dick pic or two involved.

The ball-tampering allegations come roughly 3 and half years after Paine came to the rescue of the national side and psyche, following Cameron Bancroft being found guilty of ball-tampering.

After coming in from the relative cricketing wilderness, Paine was the face of the new ‘good bloke, elite mateship’ rebrand the side underwent, eventually turning things around on and off the field.

That rapid u-turn came after the nation’s cricketers spent the last century trying to be the most aggressive and competitive versions of themselves on and off the paddock.

However, it now seems like it is time for Tim to hand the baton on, with Australian selectors mulling over a new captain, or maybe even an old one…

It’s not known how serious Paine is about his comments to stay on with the team as a player, but it’s believed that the English supporters are certainly going to have a good time in the stands if he does.
