An Australian man who prides himself on his Bourdain-like taste palette, is still frustratingly unable to be taken seriously by staff at a local Thai restaurant.

"I'm not your average white bloke haha" boasted Hayden Smith (32), a man who takes extreme pride in his ability to consume spicy food.

Upon arrival Hayden was met by the smiling faces of two Thai aunties at a counter where he was handed two laminated menu's.

"The problem with Thai food in Australia is that it's completely different to the Thai food in Thailand, I think they know most white people can't handle the heat levels haha" explained Hayden.

Hayden was quick to order Gaeng Tai Pla and proudly tell the aunties not to hold back on the chilli.

Despite his declaration, the auntie both gave a synchronized head shake and declines his request.

"Too spicy for you" said the both of them.

Hayden laughed nervously, insisting that he can handle it.

The aunties simply smiled, nodding politely, before scribbling “one mild curry” on their notepad.

Moments later, Hayden sat at his table, proudly filming his Singha beer and muttering something about "missing Thailand".

When his dish finally arrived, he took his first bite and immediately began sweating from the eyelids.

“Yeah, this is great" he said through shallow breaths, eyes watering as he reached for a napkin.

“Just like Chang Mai”

Other patrons looked on as Hayden continued to insist that the meal was “exactly what I was craving,” while quietly spooning the curry sauce away from the visible chunks of chili and fermented fish paste.
