A proud Australian man has finally let go of his previous grievances with the Ottoman Empire and its subsequent nation Türkiye after chowing down on a much needed doner kebab after a long day of drinking.
33 year old Harry McGregor, comes from an impressive line of Australian diggers dating all the way back to the Boer Wars.
He says that while he is largely over the higher ground advantage the Ottomans had during Gallipoli, patriotic grievances can flare up after a few hours of day drinking on ANZAC day.
“All is forgiven, the past is the past” Harry said with a half eaten kebab in one hand and garlic sauce on his chin.
Harry, who on any other day of the year doesn’t really think about Turkish people, felt a deep and emotional sense of everlasting peace between our two nations after a Turkish man named Kubilay handed him a kebab moments after addressing him as “boss”.
“It was the way he said ‘boss’—with genuine respect—that really got me,” Harry reflected, clearly moved.
He added that the meat-to-salad ratio was “perfect,” and at that moment, all historical tension seemed absurd.
“I reckon if Ian Hamilton had one of these in 1915, we wouldn’t have even landed,” he joked, wiping sauce off his stained button up shirt.
