Aussie Skifields On Standby To Welcome The Grounded European Summer Crowd

While Australia’s wealthy snoots watch their 2026 Euro summers drip down the gurgler of their freestanding bathtubs, Australian ski fields are thrilled, it can be reported.

With the cost of a flight to Europe now well out of reach for many, even super affluent types who make a bi-annual trip to Corfu, our nation’s ski fields are expected to be packed for the majority of winter.

It’s great news for the handful of local ski resorts who like to charge upwards of $220 for a ski lift ticket, as they look to squeeze as much money as possible out of Australians before climate change comes through and turns our ski fields into goat tracks.

Speaking to a representative from Vail Resorts, the American mountain resort company that turns the chair lifts on at Perisher, Falls Creek, and Hotham, this winter will be a bumper year on the slopes.

“Skiiing in Aus gets a bad wrap, but this year the snobs won’t get a choice!”, said Travis Smiggens, the head of operations at Perisher resort.

“We’re hearing many of the cashed up consultants in Canberra, and North Shore Sydney families have killed their plans to visit Greece in June, and will be coming down to Jindy for the winter.”

“Anyone who’s got a cousin, neighbour or brother-in-law that’s got connections to a ski-in, ski out lodge has already been making calls!”

Asked whether the resort would be reviewing the cost of food, drinks and lift passes this year, Smiggens says the resort is doing everything it can, to keep the prices comparable to skiing in St. Moritz.

“If they’re coming to Perisher instead of Positano, we’re doing our best to keep it a like-for-like financial experience.”

“A single slice of pizza will be about $16, a beer about the same, and the cost for a lift ticket will be equal to buying a three day Eurail pass, we’re going to notch it closer to $300.”

More ACL injuries to come.
