An Australian venturing into an American liquor store for the first time has reconsidered his opinion on alcohol regulation after seeing some of Americas great alcoholic beverages.
"15% pop tart flavoured buzzball's were a step to far for me,"
"This should not be legal," he said.
Sydney man Liam Cooper (27), had always considered Australia’s alcohol laws to be the work of joyless bureaucrats determined to stop adults from having fun.
However, those beliefs were shaken after five minutes inside a suburban American bottle shop, where he was confronted by shelves of products seemingly invented during a brainstorming sessions while smoking crack/.
“I saw a 1.75 litre bottle of cinnamon whisky, alcoholic whipped cream and something called a ‘Hard Mountain Dew’ all within about ten metres of each other,” he said.
“At some point I realised maybe the government occasionally does need to step in.”
The final straw came when Cooper spotted a brightly coloured alcoholic drink containing enough sugar, caffeine and artificial colouring to make it indistinguishable from something sold at a Year 6 disco.
Even he admitted there had to be a line.
Cooper says he still supports Australians being trusted to make their own decisions, but now believes there are situations where someone in a position needs to get involved for the safety of the country.
