New Zealand-born-and-raised Aussie golfer Ryan Fox has won the Open Championship in England overnight, becoming the first to do it since the other Cameron Smith did it about five or so years ago.
Fox, who has spent some time in Australia previously, held his nerve to win the last Major championship of 2026 in his own right at 10 under par.
It was not an easy road for the Aussie, with the last nine or so holes not going to plan until the last, when he hit one up the guts then did it again but into the green on the full. Then he needed to putt it to win it and guess what he fucking did it.
Yesterday or the day before, he actually equalled the record for the lowest round in a major championship, or maybe just the British Open. Dunno but either way, for the fightin' Aussie from Tokoroa, it's pretty bloody impressive either way.
As mentioned above, though born in New Zealand, Fox is now an Australian whether he likes it or not. This is due to him finding success abroad, and that he has spent time in Australia. It is in the constitution.
Fox was unable for comment when contacted by The Advocate, which was to be expected considering it's now quite late in England and he's just clinched one of sport's great trophies.
Good on you Foxy, mate. Well done. You've done every Aussie proud.
