The newly returned Prime Minister of the country has this week revealed his new cabinet.
Fresh off the back of a resounding victory, Anthony Albanese has kept some of his party in their positions and reshuffled a couple of ministerial portfolios.
The promotions and demotions of minsters after an election is often seen as a reward or punishment for their performance over the last term of politics, and the election campaign.
It’s also seen as a clever way of appointing certain people to certain roles, that may or may not be favourable for their public facing image.
One of those people is Tanya Plibersek, who has been given the lovely role of Social Services Minister, following 3 years of running the Environment Portfolio, where she would make rulings that were then publicly overturned by her leader.
On top of the new gig running the underfunded and over punched social services sector, Tanya has also been made the boss of a brand new portfolio; The New Taxes And Cuts To Social Services Ministry.
The role has reportedly been created especially for Tanya, and will see the Sydney MP in charge of publicly revealing new taxes required to balance out the budget.
She will also be in charge of finding ‘excess costs’ in the social services portfolio.
Both Tanya and Albo have been contacted for comment but politely declined.
More to come.
