AFL Grand Final Now Allowing Secondary Ticket Market For The Seats That Will Be Left Empty After Kylie

The AFL has announced their event ticketing system will undergo a temporary restructure ahead of the 2026 AFL grand final this Saturday. 

Kylie Minogue, the Australian pop queen who has held royalty status among the girls and the gays for the last few decades, was announced as the pre-game entertainment headliner back in March. 

This means that the AFL will not be persecuting anyone seen to be scalping tickets on the day - if they had previously passed through the MCG gates to watch Kylie Minogue.

The last time Kylie played in Australia was during her Tension tour early last year, which sold out almost immediately due to high ticket demand. 

After the grand final, she has no immediate dates scheduled on home soil, though she’ll be joining Harry Styles over in America for his tour next year. 

Considering the grand final always sells out tickets to maximum capacity, and (more than) a handful of these are fans coming solely for Kylie, the AFL has introduced a once-off ticket resale market to maximise their profits. 

The marketplace will welcome Kylie fans to resell their tickets to those just there to see the sport for a price of their own choosing. 

So far, AFL executives are calling the new initiative a huge success.

“Honestly, so good for me," said Nathan Hewitt, a 34-year-old Kylie tragic. 

"The footy is fine but I have this other party to go to on Saturday night, so basically, I resell my ticket, some boofhead misses out on the greatest cultural experience of their life, I get to see my icon, and in the end I basically break even,”

Another fan, Kellie Padam (28) agrees that this secondary system just makes sense.

“Like I would stay but one of my boyfriend’s friends was sooo jealous that I got tickets so I just sold it to him for twice the price because I could."

"Like I made a profit off seeing Kylie freaking Minogue - and the bloke I highballed doesn't even care because he's one of those mouth breathing sportsbetting app kinda guys.”

Kylie is expected to start sometime around 1pm, so Melbourne locals can expect the city to really come alive from 2pm onwards.
