Real estate agents in the wider Betoota Shire Council have been put on notice today after another weekend of our town’s young folks being ambushed by cashed-up grey-haired investors outbidding them by tens – if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It’s one thing that our town’s socialist mayor, Councillor Keith Carton, has had enough of.

Even though Mayor Carton has himself a large property portfolio, complete with a wide variety of residential, commercial and land on the edge of town soon to be rezoned, he’s putting the blame squarely on the agents themselves.

“They’re the ones who are causing all the heartbreak in this town – and around the country. It ends here, in Betoota,” he said.

“So I’m writing new laws this week to prevent the shady practice from taking place in the future. Any agent who I personally deem to be underquoting the young people of Betoota out there just trying to put a roof over their head, will be cattlegunned on the spot by me or my son [sic].”

Mr Carton said a trial was run in Betoota Heights over the weekend which was successful, he said.

“A two-bedroom apartment built in 1995 that was already starting to fall apart was listed at $240 000 and sold for $410 000. We had the agent cattlegunned in the trainyards by the river later that night and we’ve heard that word has started to trickle down through the real estate community,”

“Which is a good thing.”

The new laws come into effect on Friday and could be expanded to include so-called ‘property investors’ who are greedy people who are merchants of human misery.

“People who are purchasing their fourth or fifth property could also be cattlegunned on the spot,” said Mayor Carton.

“What a revolting practice. I’m all for buying a city unit or beach holiday house but buying a house you don’t need and having some poor bastard in there paying your mortgage is crook and you should have your demented 70-year-old brain turned to a damp gas.”

More to come.
