Local mother of two, Bridget Lasson, has cocked an eyebrow this afternoon after reading the birthday party invitation her son received. While the invitation in question was nothing remarkable, the information housed on the A5 card that got Bridget’s cogs turning.

“Well, well, well… Jackie, it looks like your friend, Peter, is a little rich boy”

It’s believed Bridget made this leap after reading the address listed on the invitation, an address that was an actual house. Not only was it a full house on its own block of land, it was located in one of Betoota’s more affluent waterfront areas, Betoota Quay.

Like many young parents, Bridget assumed everyone was still in the same boat when it came to a living situation. That being, cramming into your two or three bedroom apartment until it’s unsustainable and then moving out of the city so you can afford a house.

“When and how did this happen? What do the parents do for work? How can they even afford the monthly repayments? I just have so many questions!”

The median house price in Betoota’s eastern suburbs is $3.4m, so Bridget’s shock is not entirely unwarranted.

However, it is around this stage of life that the divisions between demographics begin to widen. One day you’re all making do in a small apartment, and the next your kid’s friend’s parents are inviting you to their actual house to rub in your face that they have no common walls.

It’s not yet known how or if Bridget will broach the topic with Peter’s parents, but it is believed she will subtly prompt fellow parents with probing questions to try and find out how they’re so rich.

More to come.
