Over 5000L of vodka has been stolen and replaced with water at Nadi International Airport's duty free outlet in Fiji, it has been reported.
The news comes less than 24 hours after an additional 12.9kg of cocaine went missing from an evidence room in the country's high court.
This brings the total stolen across Fiji courtrooms to more than 52kg - up to half of which police say has been replaced with flour.
Police say there are several high-profile criminals and drug traffickers whom they will direct attention to throughout the investigation.
However, officials later confirmed any Australians who have entered and exited Fiji in the last 90 days will also be included in the suspect pool considering 73% of the nation’s population trained professionally in the dark art of substance swapping in their teen years.
“It’s a really tricky one,” said Sergeant Moses Volavola.
“I just don’t know how they got away with this right under our nose!”
“It really is the perfect crime. Far out, swapping cocaine for flour, swapping vodka for water. Genius!”
The street value of the stolen cocaine is up to $20 million, while the vodka could retail for up to $200,000.
“Ha ha, don’t tell me that. I could’ve been a rich man if I’d thought of it first!” said Sgt Volavola.
At this point, investigations are yet to determine whether or not the substances are still circulating, or were rather used to fuel a week long bender on the island.
More to come.
