A local Betoota Ponds man has today left a crowded Hoyts theatre bitterly disappointed.

After viewing some superhero slop, Blake Heatly (26) couldn’t help but think that his best cinematic experience was far behind him.

Heatly’s staunchly middle class upbringing meant that family holidays consisted of Gold Coast trips to Nan’s place and if they were well behaved, a trip to Queensland's crown jewels, the theme parks.

Upon reflection, Heatly concluded that no cinematic experience would live up to the ‘Sherk 4-D’ screening at Warner Brothers Movie World. Specifically the Donkey Sneeze moment,
which was accompanied by a light sprinkling of water onto the viewers.

Movie World closed the 4-D Shrek experience in 2010 but it still profoundly resonates with the lucky bunch who bore witness to it.

Speaking with the Advocate, Heatly described his glum realisation.

“I just don’t understand why the whole 4-D thing didn’t take off.”

“After that Donkey sneezed on me, the bar for cinematic experiences was set pretty high. It’s hard to go into a cinema already knowing that nothing’s gonna top that,” he said.

Hollywood big wigs briefly experimented with the 3-D format before deciding that the glasses were gimmicky and pretty lame. Since then the 2-D format has emerged as the clear Hollywood favourite.

“I think the Queensland Government should urge Movie World to bring back the Shrek screening, I feel bad for the generations that missed out.”

“I just remembered there was also this part in the film where it felt like spiders were crawling on you! That was awesome!”
