3rd generation Greek Australian woman Zoe Agathangelou (30) is still struggling to shake the overwhelming urge to dedicate an entire room in her home to a giant cabinet filled with fancy plates no one is ever allowed to use.
Zoe explains that the urge really came after the purchasing of her first home.
"I just had this inexplicable need to turn the 3rd bedroom into a 2nd dining room with a big cabinet of fancy plates that never gets used" she said while sitting next to her completely bewildered fiancé.
According to Zoe, the impulse feels genetic.
She recalls growing up in a house where the good plates lived behind glass like priceless museum artefacts, only coming out for Orthodox Easter, and even then only if yiayia was in a generous mood.
“I don’t even want the plates” Zoe admitted.
“I just feel like if I don’t have a room filled with them something bad will happen.”
Her fiancé, Mark, says he first noticed the signs when Zoe began casually browsing ornate plate cabinets on Facebook Marketplace at 2am.
Friends say the transformation is almost complete, with Zoe already referring to the area near the kitchen as the good dining room, despite the fact they’ve only eaten there once.
Today, Zoe was seen measuring the hallway to confirm whether an extremely delicate cabinet would be able to fit through the hallway.
