In a state full of extremely tidal flood machines, the organisers of the upcoming Brisbane Olympics have spent months weighing up which mighty river should host the rowing events at the 2032 Brisbane Games.
This has been made more difficult by the fact that the Queensland Government has promised that Brisbane's vanity project will result in plenty of short-term regional tourism and long-term rural sporting infrastructure for certain events that take place outside of the city.
As it stands, Rockhampton's Fitzroy River will remain a venue for the rowing events for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Even though France felt it was perfectly fine to let the world's best athletes swim in the River Seine, there are mounting concerns the Rockhampton course may not meet 'international standards'.
While a Moreton Bay proposal is being touted as a potential back-up plan, The QLD Deputy Premier, Jarrod Bleijie MP, remains firm that Central Queensland's Mighty Fitzroy is still locked in to host the canoeing and rowing events.
Outside of this ongoing debate over the Fitzroy River's cleanliness and safety standards, the town of Rockhampton is mostly known for being the beef capital of Australia, as well as the host of ''Rockynats' - the tropical rival of Canberra's Summernats car show.
Until now, not much thought has ever really been given to hosting the world's best rowing and canoeing athletes for the most important events of their entire lives.
With the Central Queensland goodness of abattoir run-off, and the array of yummy chemical compounds that leak from the Lakes Creek Waste Management facility and the Army Depot - the paddle events are now extreme sports!
This, with the added obstacles of burnt out Commodores and abandoned shopping trolleys - The Brisbane Olympics are set to introduce some new events entirely.
"It's going to make for much better viewing" said Deputy Premier Bleijie.
"These Olympians are now up against the possibility of getting a concerning rash every time they catch a crab!"
"And let's not forget the crocs!
"Plus, Rocky has plenty of bridges that locals and tourists can spectate from."
"Imagine watching the Hungarians and Kiwis trying to row through a hail of Murri kids bomb diving off the Alexandra Bridge"
