The Palaszczuk Government is reportedly toying with the idea of reopening the border to New South Wales today after the latest poll shows keeping it shut is now an unpopular policy.

In recent months, the majority of Queenslanders have supported the border closure and forced quarantine of people from New South Wales.

It was a policy aimed at keeping Queenslanders safe – but it seems now that the virus is all but under control in New South Wales, the Queensland economy wants that cockroach tourist dollar back.

In a poll conducted by News Corp in areas heavilly affected by toursim closures only, the policy of keeping the borders shut is now in danger of being the reason why the Palaszczuk Government could be voted out in just over a month’s time.

“Far North Queensland, according to Palaszczuk, starts at Strathpine and ends at Mooloolaba,” said one Cairns-based fishing charter operator.

“We’re hurting up here. We’re doing our arse in this COVID up here and locking the cashed up rat folk of the far south out of Queensland is only going to hurt my arse even more,”

“And if she opens the border back up and we all get sick, we’ll fucken hate the government even more!”

The Advocate reached out the Queensland Premier’s office for comment but have yet to receive a reply.

More to come.
