In case you’d completely switched off from the news cycle, because the election is finally over and you shouldn’t have to worry about this shit for another 3 years, it seems that the new Labor Government is already embroiled in their first scandal.

And by scandal, we mean mildly interesting news story.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said his new cabinet minister Tanya Plibersek made a “mistake” by likening Peter Dutton to the Harry Potter villain Lord Voldemort – a sledge for which she has “unreservedly” apologised.

This comes as Dutton stands unopposed to become the new Liberal leader. In a statement released overnight, the Queensland MP confirmed he would nominate, saying he wanted to show Australians “the rest of my character, the side my family, friends and colleagues see” – which is his way of saying ‘I’m going to try and conduct myself like a human being, and I regret caging all of those refugee children for ten years’.

As part of this new rebrand, Dutton has brushed off the early attacks on both his character and appearance as ‘unfortunate’.

However, just because the Liberal Government lost 20 seats at the Federal election on Monday, does not mean they don’t still have attack dogs out there.

Namely, the matriarch of the Coalition, Sky News commentator and notable conspiracist Peta Credlin, who has taken great offense at the Voldermort sledge.

Taking to the air last night, Credlin told Plibersek to keep her mouth shut.

“Keep. My. Leader’s. Name. OUT YOUURRRRR FUCKKKKINNGGGGGG MOUTH,” said Credlin.

With a producer trying to raise the fact it was just a joke, Credlin then repeated the same words, but at a much louder volume.

The audible slap has since sent shock waves around the media landscape, with hundreds of articles being penned about the toxicity of either side of the argument.

More to come.
