A Betoota Heights man who drives a 2002 Holden Cruze has told reporters and friends this morning that he’s abandoning his original plans to sell it after the carmaker ceased operations earlier this week.

Holden’s parent company, General Motors, decided to pull out of the Australian market after conceding it’s not viable moving forward.

That’s after taking hundreds of millions of dollars worth of taxpayer-funded subsidies and bail-outs.

Nevertheless, Dale Pooley has told himself that his canary-yellow 2002 Holden Cruze will now become a classic car, eventually.

“Because they don’t make Holdens anymore,” he told The Advocate.

“Car enthusiasts of the future will one day be fighting over my car, Jeremy. I was going to sell it because it was made in Thailand 18 years ago and it’s got almost three-fifty on the clock, you know,”

“But Jeremy has a new lease on life now. I might even start filling him up with premium. I’m quietly confident he’ll be on the cover on Classic Car in a few decades time.”

The Advocate reached out to Holden for comment but they’ve currently got all their staff stripping the copper from their office walls.

A local classic car collector did share his opinion with our reporter regarding, Jeremy, the canary yellow Holden Cruze and he said there was ‘no’ chance of it becoming even remotely desirable in the future.

“Honestly, I’d rather ride Kim Beazley down to the shops,” he said.

“And I wouldn’t mind if he ghosted me after.”

More to come.
