The Morrison Government’s signature tax cut policy will pass through the Senate and become policy after Senator Jacqui Lambie, who had the balance of power on the legistlation, agreed to vote for it.

However, it’s come at a cost for the Coalition.

In order to ensure the safe passage of ScoMo’s election-promised tax cuts through parliament, Senator Lambie demanded Tasmania’s housing debt of $157 million be wiped in exchange for her vote.

The nation was left in shock at the news, with some locals telling The Advocate that they were amazed somebody in Canberra has used their powers to benefit the lives of their constituents.

“It’s blown my hat – and socks off. She’s actually keeping the bastards honest,” said Gary Douglas, a Betoota Heights small business owner.

“I mean just last week, you had old Robocop Cormann say he wasn’t going to make any deals to get the tax cuts through the Senate. This week, he’s rolled over like the shonky-hipped Labrador he is and let Jacqui scratch his little tum tum,”

“I for one am glad the people of Tasmania had the common sense to elect somebody sincere and competent. Somebody who actually cares about the people who put them in a position of power. Somewhere, Ricky Muir is looking down on her and smiling.”

Our reporter informed Gary that former Senator Ricky Muir isn’t dead and that yes, he’s probably quite proud of what Jacqui’s achieved in her political career.

Gary smiled, shrugged and went back to what he was doing before our reporter tapped him on the shoulder.

The Advocate reached out to the Jacqui Lambie network for comment but were told Jacqui’s busy sticking it to big media and she’d get back to us sometime today.

More to come.
