Taken aback by the real-life depictions of a day-in-the-life of a Department of Finance employee, local science graduate Osbourne Campbell revealed his newfound interest in joining the organisation after watching their recruitment video – which has since gone viral.

Lampooned and mocked for being ‘cringeworthy’ and ‘lame’, the 23-year-old doesn’t feel the same way, telling The Advocate candidly that he thinks it doesn’t look too bad at all.

“I enjoyed the video, I’m going to apply for their graduate programme,” said Campbell.

“With my double degree in Science (Economics) and pure mathematics, I’d be well placed among the other candidates, which I imagine did degrees such as finance or applied finance. Those people would be better off as stockbrokers anyway because they are dumber.”

As a four-year-old, Osbourne was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome, a developmental disorder characterised by significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour and interests.

“This could be reason why the video looked so appealing,” he said.

“Those people in it seemed familiar to me and their gait and mannerisms felt quite homely to me. The lack of eye-contact and the amount of respect shown to personal space was also quite nice to see. I imagine that if I worked there, people would just leave me alone to do my job.”
