A retrenched Brisbane Times reporter spoke to The Advocate this morning about losing his job and what impact it had on his life.

“It could’ve been worse. I got offered a job at the Daily Mail down in Sydney,” said the journalist, who asked to remain anonymous.

“But instead, I chose to just sleep rough around South Bank. Washing my filthy body in the pools, mugging the ABC journos for food money – and wine money,”

“Most of them knew who I was anyway and took pity on me. Sometimes they leave the fire escape open for me to sleep in if it’s raining. The ABC isn’t as bad as people say it is.”

The Advocate then asked the reporter if he’d like some breakfast, but the vagrant journalist said the bottle shop doesn’t open till noon.

More to come.
