Canadian rapper and noted enjoyer of large gatherings of young adults, Drake, has officially cancelled the remaining dates of his Australian tour, citing a “scheduling conflict” that insiders suggest may have more to do with recent diss tracks and ticket sales than logistical issues.
The announcement, made via Ticketek and his management, confirmed that Drake’s final shows in Brisbane, Sydney, and Auckland would no longer be going ahead. However, the statement also assured fans that the rapper was actively working on rescheduling these dates along with adding some additional shows.
That promise came with a rather odd caveat. Drake will reportedly only return to Australia during Schoolies.
“We understand this is disappointing, but Drake loves Australia and has every intention of returning at a time that really makes sense for him,” said a spokesperson for the artist.
“November on the Gold Coast just feels like the right vibe.”
The sudden cancellations have lightly disappointed fans, many of whom had been looking forward to the tour, despite lingering questions over Drake’s alleged penchant for younger women.
Despite concerns over refunds and potential rescheduled dates, Drake’s management remains firm that he “had an awesome time in Australia” and “can’t wait to come back when the atmosphere is just right.”
For now, ticket holders have been advised to hold onto their tickets for rescheduled dates or apply for refunds, while Schoolies organisers have begun preparing for the inevitable chaos.
More to come.
