The war between the major families of Australian federal politics has reached another low today.

After a number of hits on Independent political staffers yesterday, notable ACT Senator David Pocock has reportedly been confronted by a horrifying scene.

Waking up in his carbon-neutral home this morning, the former Wallabies backrower said he found himself cuddling a severed horse’s head.

With pools of blood ruining his beautiful gold silk sheets and pyjamas, a soaked Pocock said he soon realised it wasn’t just any old horses head.

“It was Brumby Jack,” said the devastated Independent Senator.

For those who aren’t familiar with Bruce Stadium down in the cold country of the Bush Capital, Brumby Jack is the mascot of Pocock’s former team the ACT Brumbies.

Known for his high-energy enthusiasm, the mascot has been a fan favourite for Brumbies fans for quite some time.

However, it looks like Tah Man might need to make the trip down the highway if Canberrans are to see a mascot anytime soon.

Speaking exclusively with The Advocate this morning, Pocock explained that the incident was a clear attempt at intimidation by Don Albanese, the head of the notorious Labor family.

“He’s trying to send a message, because myself and the other independents blew up about his staffing cuts,” explained Pocock.

This follows revelations that Crossbench MPs and Senators will have their staffing allocations cut in this new parliament, including having the number of Seniour Advisors available to them reduced from four to one.

Don Albanese and his party have claimed that the move is aimed at reducing costs, while Crossbenchers like Pocock have slammed the decision saying it’s an attack on democracy designed at limiting other representatives’ ability to understand proposed legislation and policies.

It remains to be seen whether there will be any compromise from the government, but if the severed head of Brumby Jack is anything to go by, Don Albanese is pretty keen to establish his authority.

More to come.
