The finest drop off the bluest of mountains has this week maintained the status quo – pardon the pun.

The aptly named Mountain Culture brewery has done so by cementing the region’s elite reputation at the forefront of national culture – by winning the Annual GABS Hottest 100.

Known as the premier beer countdown in the world, the annual fan voted poll ranks the top 100 craft and independent Aussie beers in the country – and unlike Triple J’s music countdown, actually contains Aussie products.

And, for the third year in a row, Mountain Culture has gotten it done – capping off the first 3peat since Feral Brewing Co over a decade ago.

The famous win follows another mammoth year for the Greater Penrith/Blue Mountains region.

The top place on the podium comes a few months after Blaxland High products Jess and Noemie Fox cleaned up the gold in Paris.

It also follows the Pride of the West thumping Melbourne to bring home a historic four peat, and Patty Cummins securing the last remaining piece of silverware not currently in the Australian Trophy cabinet.

And it’s now led to the nation’s peak scientific body the CSIRO launching a groundbreaking study into what exactly is in the water up that way.

“It’s about time we examined the water content up there,” said lead researcher Wimalee Omba.

Local resident Leura Brook has also agreed on the amazing water make up.

“Ah yeah, there’s certainly something in the water up this way,” laughed Brook.

“Maybe it’s the Status Quo,” he continued in reference to the popular beer that’s now making waves around the country.

“Or maybe it’s just that we are built different up here.”

“You know Nathan Bracken was from here too?”

“Oh and don’t forget that  bloke called Richie Beanud”

“Show me another region in the country that compares to us?”

“See, ya can’t.”

“We are on top, and we’re gonna stay way!”

“This is the new Status Quo baby!”
