Wimbledon officials have broken records for pearl-clutching over the weekend, after tournament organisers took issue with what appeared to be a bit of friendly competitiveness between two Hellenic gentlemen.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios were both fined for offences committed during their third-round blow-up, proving that no one from Wimbledon would last a minute in a Melbourne kafenion, especially if the backgammon board was out.

Greek star Tsitsipas was hit with a $14,600 sanction for angrily belting a ball into the Court One crowd, while the Greek-Australian was fined nearly $6000 for the far less offensive charge of ‘audible obscenity’.

Kyrgios was also fined more than $14,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct during his first-round match, as the whinging poms demand that every tennis star should behave like a mute Spaniard.

Kyrgios demanded Tsitsipas be defaulted for hitting a ball into the crowd, while his opponent also repeatedly tried to hit him in the body from close range.

As the dummy spit continued off the court, Tsitsipas called his rival a “bully” with an “evil side” to him – while Kyrgios rejected the accusations and said his Greek opponent was “soft”.

As the whinging continues from the softcock administrators, both players are now ready to talk about something else, namely the fact that the Aussie is still a chance to win this thing.

However, the morally high-horsing is not isolated to Wimbledon officials, with Australian media commentators taking the opportunity to engage in some classic teal racism by demanding that the Greek-Australian citizenship be revoked for embarrassing us in front of the Greeks (?).

Long Live The Kyng.
