If you haven’t yet realised, Sydney’s insular peninsular is in a state of panic right now.

Not since the pandemic-era ‘Avalon Cluster’ that locked down the Northern Beaches for all of Christmas in 2020 have we seen such disarray. Such confusion. Such bitter finger-pointing.

This comes after it was revealed that the most capped player in the history of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles has put himself on the market.

The National Rugby League is in overdrive right now, and the people north of Middle Harbour are bracing themselves for the horrors of 2015.

Daly Cherry-Evans, Queensland legend and Manly captain, is 36. But he’s in good nick. And he’s keen to sign elsewhere for his final season, or two.

This means 2025 could be his last year dancing to Eagle Rock. This means whatever five-year plan the club had in place is now out the window.

It’s isn’t the first time he’s honey-dicked them either. Ten years ago he was an up and coming Manly superstar, only to sign with the Gold Coast Titans on a lucrative four year deal. He then backflipped in the cooling off period and resigned with the Sea Eagles after they counter offered the biggest contract in the history of the NRL at that point.

A contract that he saw out, over 1 million dollars a year for ten years. But now he’s done and ready to explore his options.

The people of the Northern Beaches are horrified to realise he now has options, and has a proven record of putting himself and his family above all else.

The speculation is buzzing – and whatever he’s being offered for a two year extension right now – will likely be double by the end of the week.

This will be a painful wait for the locals. From the bowls clubs to the worksites, from the pubs the surf. Everyone is rattled. They are scared. They are whincing.

Now is the time to check in on your mates who live in the Northern Beaches.
