A recent report by the CSIRO has found that the bastard child of soccer’s evolution into rugby is now the most entertaining brand of Australian sport of all time.

Rugby league, a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field. One of the two codes of rugby, it originated in Northern England in 1895 as a split from the Rugby Football Union over the original code’s decision to not pay players in an effort to keep it exclusive to private school boys and aristocrats who didn’t need the money.

The most popular rugby league competition in the world is Australia’s NRL, and the rules have progressively changed with the aim of producing a faster, more entertaining game for spectators.

According to the CSIRO report, the game has reached it’s most electrifying in the last few decades with the invention of the State Of Origin series. A three-match competition played between two groups of young men with no discernible differences between them other than the geographic location of their birth.

“It truly is the greatest game of all” says lead researcher Professor Kempsey.

“Anyone who lives above the Barrassi line who says they didn’t watch last night’s match is quite simply lying”

“If the TV networks were playing it, you were watching it. Simple as that”
