Filipino-Australians living in Brisbane are really going hard on the whole Filipino thing ahead of this weekend’s Manny Pacquiao match, it has been confirmed.

Australians right around the country will be tuned in on Saturday night to watch Pacquiao, 38, is defending his WBO world welterweight championship against 29-year-old Aussie Jeff “Hornet” Horn at Suncorp Stadium.

Dubbed ‘The Battle Of Brisbane’ – the fight has been yet another chance for Brisbane to market their sporting exports in the same way they have done with State Of Origin – as they encourage the city’s residents to get behind their hometown boy, Horn.

However, unlike State Of Origin, there will be a contingent of Queenslanders who will not be cheering on the Hornet.

Local Filipino-Brisbanite, Mervin Tolosa, says that while he is usually very proud to be a Euphoric Queenslander – this Saturday night will be different.

“Tierra adorada, Hija del sol de Oriente, mate” he says

“Lets go Pacman!!!”

“I’m so Filipino right now. Pacman’s got this”

Similar to Australian-born residents with Kiwi heritage and their undying generational love for the All Blacks, it is believed that most Australians with Filipino background will not be cheering on the migaloo this weekend.

“Of course we are cheering for Pacman” says former Sydney Roosters player, Craig Wing.

“How often do Australian boxing fans get the chance to cheer on someone this good?”

“I mean, most of us will be happy to claim Horn if it looks like he’s going to win – but until then, lets go Pacman!”
