A Betoota Heights woman has been dealt quite the conundrum today, as a catchup with her friend saw her struggling to choose between active listening, and fighting the urge to share a similar anecdote, it’s reported.

Nodding along as her mate Jen confessed the army bloke she was seeing was showing some red flags, Anna Murray, 28, couldn’t help but draw some parallels between some of the behaviour her mate was complaining about, and her ex from a few years ago.

But if she pipes up that she too, went through a similar situation, would that be helpful for her friend to hear or does Jen just need some space to vent?

Would it be selfish to temporarily take some of the attention, or would sharing her own experience allow her friend to identify behavioural patterns of a potentially emotionally unavailable partner?

Anna decides it might be best to just let Jen talk for a bit – who’s now recounting the time ‘Jason’ wouldn’t stop talking about how hot his mate’s sister was.

“And he keeps talking about his ex and all his past sexual flings? Like giving me in-depth information of all sex stuff he’s done, I find it so bizarre?”

“Oh my god, Tom did that too! It made me feel so awful about myself”, burst Anna, unable to contain herself, “actually, that reminds me…”

More to come.
